In the maritime industry, the word HERO is an acronym that stands for Honor and Excellence in Rescue Operations. This acronym was created by the American Waterways Operators (AWO) for an award that documents and recognizes rescues undertaken by member company employees that demonstrate selflessness, skill, and bravery.

On Wednesday July 3, the Captain and crew of the Gwyneth Anne were underway delivering materials to Ozinga Ready-mix in downtown Chicago. While passing under the Van Buren Bridge, a person jumped from the bridge and landed in a loaded barge of sand. The Captain and crew (who received training for this type of event) immediately went into action and were able to detain the person and notify the authorities.

Middle River is extremely proud of our crews professionalism and response to this emergency. The person was safely removed from the tow and taken into custody.

Thank you to our HEROES (L to R Photo Above) Jackson Simpson, Matt Hoover, Mark Reynolds, Captain Mike Wolf, Roy Sparrow, and (seated) James Wagner for your selflessness, skill, and bravery.
